Surgery Confusion?

Forum newbie here.. :)

I have been seeing an awesome surgeon here in NC, and have completed all the requirements (seminar, psych, nutrition, endoscopy, RMR) except fitness test and support group which are within two weeks.

When I came in I was interested in the sleeve, but he suggested because of my BMI (44 ugh) that I might lose more and be more successful with the RNY.

I am a little apprehensive about RNY, but I also know the sleeve doesn't have as many longevity studies as RNY. So I'm essentially back and forth between them.

Anybody have an experience where they switched surgery type? I welcome all thoughts!

Here is a great video that set forth factors to help you decide. This doctor was not my doctor, but his info is pretty good.

In the world of WLS, 44 isn't "ugh!" high BMI. Most insurance policies require a minimum BMI of 40, unless you have at least 2 significant co-morbidities. The surgeon you're seeing may simply prefer to do the RNY, period. I think you should choose the surgery type you're going to spend the rest of your life living with based on how YOU want to live.
