A Pound of Cure... thoughts?

I've been struggling with my eating, with cravings and binge eating. Recently on the boards a few members brought up the Pound of Cure way of eating that is promoted by Bariatric Surgeon Matthew Wiener. I've never watched the videos that he has online, but I decided that I was interested in reading more about it. I ordered the book A Pound of Cure and I started reading it. I've gotten through the first few chapters and I've decided that I'm going to try this method out for a 2 week reset. Starting next Monday I'll be following the guidelines for 2 weeks to see how it works for me. I am most definitely not a vegetarian, but the program doesn't require that you give up meat, so I'll be getting my protein in. I'm going to weigh in on Monday morning and start the diet and I'll check in throughout the process to see how it goes.

I think that the hardest part for me is going to be giving up dairy. Luckily, I LOVE vegetables, so I'm looking forward to most of the changes I'll be making.

Can anyone who has or does actually eat this way chime in with advice or experiences? I'd greatly appreciate any advice, and feel free to criticize as well. I'm not totally sold on this, but think that working it for 2 weeks can't actually hurt me. If it works, and I feel it's sustainable, I'll continue on. I'd like to see some weight loss. My weight has jumped up and this morning I was up at 165 pounds. Seeing that I had chinese food for dinner last night and my rings are all snug on my fingers, I'm sure it's from the sodium intake, but I'd like to try to lose at least 20 pounds from this weight.

Any plan works IF you pay close attention to how much you are eating, and IF you stick really closely to that plan. Human nature is the thing that always throws a wrench into the works.

Pound of Cure, Keto, Atkins, AMAW. It doesn't really matter. Find something that helps you cut calories and you can adhere to, preferably long term.

That's what I'm hoping for with this. I love the concept of AMAW, but I love my veggies so much that it's difficult to stay away from them. I'm hoping that allowing myself the low calorie veggies (which they will most definitely be, since the use of fat is limited with the plan) that I'll be able to find something that is sustainable for me. I'm bouncing all over the place with my eating and its taking it's toll. I haven't had any significant regain, but then again, I haven't really lost anything in a long time.

It's never veggies, or meat, or natural fats that make us gain. It's always crap.

This is so true. The thing about this way of eating, as claimed by Dr. Wiener, is that eating like this resets our metabolic thermostat and makes out body WANT to lose weight, which in effect makes us less hungry and more active. I haven't read the whole book, and honestly it could be a bunch of crap, but trying it for 2 weeks will definitely not hurt me, that's for sure.

Just quoting from the book. That's why I'm skeptical. He goes into it in more detail, but I don't have the book here at work and can't remember everything that was in it last night.

I've never watched his videos, but I guess he's got a lot of them on YouTube, if you want to check them out.

Oh, I also want to say that he also says that RNY resets our metabolic thermostat, and that is why that a lot of times people who have Gastric Bypass, and who are still morbidly obese, find that they have much more energy than before, even without a large or significant weight loss. I can speak from experience that this is true. I had RNY on 8/4/2015 and not 12 days later, while still healing from surgery, I was out walking around and doing things that I couldn't have done even a month before. My weight loss was there, but I was still over 250 pounds and would have problems with stamina before surgery.

Still can't say it's 100% spot on, but reading the book, it kinda could make sense.

This hasn't been my personal experience.

I had WAY more energy pre op. I was going to the gym, biking etc etc. Now I drag myself out of bed to get to work. Come home and walk the dogs/go to gym and flop in a chair.

4 months out and whilst I can still do all the things, it isn't as easy as it was before. I had been figuring it was due to lower calorie intake. Could be low ferritin (though the jury is out on that one).
