Why do people here Block their own Profiles?

I was trying to learn about a person, found the profile to be Blocked...Why? I know maybe there are a few different reasons, It was a new person, never spoke to, nothing negative, etc etc..I have seen a few more the same through the years, wondering why they dont want a profile public? I have mine blocked because I have half naked PS pics in there. I don't blog, so nothing for anyone to see. It also means I don't get private messages from hinky people.

I posted several photos of items for sale on FB yesterday and found out much later that no one could see the photos. DUH! ;-)

Sorry, I still have a lot of "Englishisms". Hinky means dubious ie, lurkers *****ad on the board but never post. Creeps me out to think that complete strangers could be looking at my pics if I don't choose to publicly share.

I've picked using the term hinky from you...as well as numpty. I called a bad driver a numpty the other day. I LOVE those words.

Most people around where I live have no clue what those words mean; it's pretty funny when I get looks of "Huh?" when I say something is hinky.

I'm a Brit too, at my workplace we have a daily "huddle" - a quick meeting to discuss any tech issues we're stuck on etc. This has sort of evolved to include a 'Jane's word of the day', as I see their eyes glass over after I've said something that they have no idea what it means.

I then have to take another 5 minutes to explain what I just said.

One colleague has even gone so far as to print off a list of common English sayings and tries to work them into conversations (bless him...). Although I did tell him it was probably best if he stopped telling his wife she looked like a dogs dinner, I think he got it confused with the dog's b@ll@cks - which still wouldn't seem much better to his wife!

I have my profile blocked because I am a relatively private person and don't want my information readily available to anyone in my real life that may google my name, email, screen name -- or anyone that does a google image search. I also had some experiences with some unsavory propositions from strangers when my profile was open -- not something I like to entertain nor encourage. Also, any picture loaded here is public domain and property of the site. I am not comfortable with that.

Propositions on this site? That seems so crazy, but then again I haven't met everyone and have only had experience with some of the best people so far (you included!).
