it probably depends on what is found, if any biopsies need to be taken, and how long it takes in recovery.

Do you mean xrays where you drink barium? or EGD where they put a scope down your esophgus and look at ugi tract?

Neither should take six hours, unless they have a really early checkin period.

There is a test that you drink a lot of barium and they exray you to see if you have blockage of other issues along the whole small intestine. That can run 4-6 hours. I had that done. Not fun drinking that barium...

The EGD normally takes less than an hour even with a biopsy, I've had 3 in the last year. Prepping you takes longer than the actual test. Good luck, it's not fun but really not that bad. I have a bit of a sore throat and mine was on Tuesday.

You may also be given some type of anesthesia, which means you can't drive and will want to just go home and sleep.

If you want to know exactly what they're going to do, ask them.

Depends what they going to do. I had tests that lasted 1/2 day, and others - like EGD - under sedation, that took only 1-2 hours but I was out whole day. And Ifor things like EGD - you need someone with you there.
