Jealousy

Haha, not marathon running, although some days a mile does feel like a marathon!

Thanks for giving me some perspective.  You're right, of course.  And I do try to say, "Okay, I feel jealousy.. time to get on with life anyway."  :)

Girl!  I hear you on this so much!  I see people on here that had more to lose than I do and they're at goal already.  I have to keep reminding myself that everyone loses differently and yadda yadda yadda, but I still feel jealous.

I have to remind myself how far I've come with losing 148 lbs and all of the associated benefits and just be happy for other people's success.  We can sit in our corner and be jealous together!  :D

Even if that image is meant to be funny, it's actually pretty misogynistic.

Don't forget Rule 10: Be kind to yourself :)

Oh man, I work on that every single day.  Who would have thought that being kind to myself was the hardest part of this process sometimes?

Yes, I totally hear what you are saying. The thing that really gets me is that despite being at goal and maintaining it for a year, I still feel there is a huge stigma in the WLS community for those of us who didn't get into single digit sizes. Single digit sizes weren't even on my radar when I started all this. At 38, I had high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and a heart attack scare (it turned out to be nothing). It really was do or die early from being obese.

It seems there is lots of focus on what size/weight someone got to, though. Not, "Hey, I got to chuck all my medicines and the c-pap" but "Hey, I wear a size 1".

One thing I never was mad about was getting to my starting point. I know how hard I struggled (and you struggled and the rest of us struggled). I wanted to cry when I found I weighed as much as I did because I felt it was physical evidence of what a worthless sack of crap I was, but I wasn't ready to have surgery until I actually had it. If I had had it sooner when I weighed less, I doubt my outcome would have been as good as it has been.

For me, the roughest part of this has been the head/mental stuff. If it was strictly physically losing the weight and keeping it off, it would be much easier, right?

I fight badgers with spoons.

it is sooo hard not to compare ourselves to each other. I am constantly comparing myself to people with close surgery dates to mine. I need to lose 200+ pounds total as well. Will I? I don't know. I keep giving myself mini-goals to get me there. this months mini-goal isn't going so well as I am being a slug after Christmas and with all the nasty weather. When you have so far to go it is hard to know where you will actually end up. Remember your self-worth is not tied up in your weight. Slow and steady wins the race.
