My blood sugars were so high when I had my RNY that I was getting insulin injections in the hospital, but the endocrinologist still sent me home without my Metformin, Amaryl and Actos.  My levels were not bad at first but started climbing once I started eating read foods until my fasting levels were at about 160.   Three months out my sugars are FINALLY dropping into the normal range.  I get repeat blood work tomorrow and next week get to find out if I can stay off the diabetic meds for good!

I go see my Doctor next month,  I am going to ask for more testing and to take another look at my medications

Hi all.  I also have had Type II for 6 years now, I have only taken Metformin 500 mg twice a day.  Right after surgery I stopped my metformin medication. After a month or so it started to climb back up so I put myself back on. ON the next trip to my primary I told her and she has done blood work and agrees that while my B.S. is well controlled it may never go away...a disappointment for me. But at least I am off my B.P. meds for good now!
