self pay iron infusion?

Hi guys.  I don't have any sort of health insurance and I find myself anemic after having my baby in August.  (I've had one period since then that COMPLETELY DRAINED me and pretty much rendered me useless for a couple of days.)  I had a simple CBC done.  Those numbers indicate anemia but I haven't gotten my detailed iron checked in quite some time.  I am considering finding a way to self-pay to get my full labs done.

Anyway, I'm almost positive that I need an iron infusion.  Just out of curiosity, has anybody here ever self-paid for one?  How much does something like that cost?

Wow I might get an iron infusion...when pigs fly!  No, I applied and was denied for state coverage.

Thanks!

I dug out an old explanation of benefits for my blue cross blue shield policy and it looks like they bill my insurance around $600.00 per infusion. Of course with my contracted price it is adjusted for much less.

Call around and ask.  Maybe your PCP knows of somewhere.  Let us know, some of us also don't have insurance.  Did I post the self-pay lab places for you?  You can get most of them done for around $500.

Thanks for the heads up on Zenni Optical BTW!!!

Haha I <3 my glasses, :D

I don't even have a PCP anymore.  :(  Anyway, I guess I'll ask Dr. K about this in December.

Did your labs really cost $500?  I thought I might be able to save up for them if they were like $200 or something but $500 is not doable.

You can save up and get the most important ones for $200.  Then save again and get the rest. This place I think is the cheapest:

http://www.privatemdlabs.com/

then there are these 2 also,

http://www.directlabs.com/index.php

http://www.health-tests-direct.com/

Look around and see what you can afford.  I have to do that sometimes.  Also they sometimes have sales on certain tests or monthly deals.
