Vit Def ? & Bone ?
My daughter had an accident during her softball game tonight and they are pretty sure her shoulder is fractured (the inner rim of her socket to be exact). Anybody ever heard of this? Have any experience with it? Does this kind of fracture usually heal on its own w/out surgery?
Also, they diagonosed her with neuropothy or Reynaud's Syndrom while we were there based on some of her test results (numb fingertips, and then with her history of it they said it's probably that). The paperwork they gave me said that it can be caused by a vitamin deficiency. Anybody know vitamins this may be? They figure it's not from the injury as she had symptoms previously and she won't be following up with her pcp for this until after we've gotten some answers on her shoulder.
Help!

Neuropathy and Reynauds- start with having her Dr do a workup for autoimmune conditions. Even better, get a referral to a Rheumatologist and have THEM do it. Neuropathy can be from B vitamin deficiencies (and other medical issues like Diabetes, ect), and Reynauds can be caused by magnesium deficiency (as well as other medications, previous injury, and other medical conditions), but, they BOTH occur as primary symptoms of MANY autoimmune disorders. Definitely worth checking into.
I called her pcp and she's having bloodwork done shortly. He said to start her on B Vitamins now, in case thats the problem. I'm going to ask him about having her tested for autoimmune problems too. Diabetes is a big issue in my family, so I want her checked now.
*raises hand* Shoulder veteran here! If her fracture is simple and there is no displacement of bone fragments or anything, it should heal without surgery. But be darned sure to follow up with an ortho doc *****ally knows shoulders well. They are complicated buggers. And find her a physical therapist with great sports and shoulder rehab expertise. It will make all the difference in the world.
I've done my share of shoulder rehab and oh, boy, did having the right rehab specialist improve my life. She might be surprised, when she starts rehab, at how weak her shoulder got in a VERY short time. There are a zillion structures involved and when one of them gets messed up, others quickly follow. It's vital that she be very thorough (but not pu**** too hard) and devoted in doing her therapy.
