Its a diuretic and pulls fluid out of you, could dehydrate you. As long as you drink extra fluids.

Sweetie you always need to keep the brown fluids to a minimum because you have an increased risk of kidney stones. Early out you need to preserve fluids so caffeine is a No no. Ok the odd one is no big deal but drinking constant diuretics is a bad idea.

 As soon as I knew I was drinking enough, I allowed myself caffeine.

Hydration is vital and not always easy when you are a new postop.

Ongoing, once you learn how to manage, there is no real reason to avoid caffeine.  Just be careful how much sugar sneaks into the coffee,

My doctor never cared about coffee, and never said I couldn't have any.

I was served coffee in the hospital post-op and did fine with it.

The jury is also out on whether or not caffeine's diuretic powers are as great as they are fabled to be. The perception may have come from a miscalculation bias regarding hydration.

I'd say drink decaf in moderate amounts until you know you're getting enough grams/oz of hydration with water and other non-carbonated, non-sweetened, non-caffeinated drinks alone (that pretty much leaves Crystal Lite-type stuff).

What Kirmy said....just went through my first kidney stone. I started drinking caffeinated coffee about 1.5 years out and loved it...until that freakin' pain hit from the stone. So it's back to half caff for a bit then total caffeine free for me.
