I'm just about 4 weeks post op.  I'm having pain in my shoulders and lots of burping....?? I'm assuming it's gas pain in my shoulders, but it's been keeping me up at night and I don't know how to get it to go away!  Is there anything that will help with the gas???  Thanks!

Time mostly...

Now with that said...walking, rocking while on the potty, getting someone to rub your back all helped me get rid of the gas. Also make sure you aren't making it worse with food/fluids. I also used a PPI and GasX.

My surgeon said gas left from surgery was a myth...I came close to whapping him! But then again, HE's never had surgery himself, just been on the cutting end.

It just has to work its way out when it collects in your shoulders and back. I really had a time with collected gas after my hysterectomy. They did it laparoscopically like my DS but I had more trouble with the hysti. I tried to keep moving and walking as much as I could but I don't know if that helped that much.

What kind of foods are worse for gas?  I'm sure it varies from person to person, but anything I should be staying away from?  Right now, i can't hardly even handle water!

Gas from foods should be staying in your gut and not be around your shoulders.

But ... to answer your question, the biggest culprits for gas are lactose (more plain milk than cheese and yogurt - and may include whey protein), simple carbs, and artificial sweeteners.

I am also one month out (12/12) and water gives me horrible pain.  My start weight was 190, now at 160. My gas is a lot better now, but still get gas pain in my low back right before/after a BM, always gets better when my hubby rubs my back.  Also, carbs give me gas, but meat gives me pain (not gas, just PAIN).  Still trying to get this figured out myself!
