Hello everyone,

I am wanting to have the DS done real soon and am looking for the most reasonable price.

Thanks!

Kim :-)

I had insurance but my surgeon charges extra to cover what he thinks is fair over what insurance covers for the DS. I think I paid $5000.

If you're self pay, you might check US surgeons Stewart in TX or Kesishian in CA. In Mexico check Ungson. Brazil, check Marchesini.

Check www.dsfacts.com for good DS surgeons.

For Marchenesi and Ungson, you're looking at around $15-17k from what I last heard, and that's including travel and lodging.  I heard Dr. Stewart inTX has great self-pay rates, so it's worthwhile to see what his cost is, too.

I just spoke with Dr. Greenbaum in NJ on Friday and was asking for my sister, and he told me self pay would be $11,000-$12,000 and there might be a few thousand additionally on to that for other requirements prior to surgery.

If that is the cost of the doc as well as all hospital charges, it's going to change everything for traveling abroad for surgery.   That sounds like what the surgeon would charge just for them.

13,400USD  in Belgium.  They went by Euros and it was a good exchange rate at the time.  Don't know what it is now.

It just happens that I got my bill from the hospital over the weekend.  The grand total for my open DS (plus repair of a hernia they found) and removal of gall bladder, plus a 6 day stay in the hospital was a little over $72,000.  Holy crap that's a lot of money.  After insurance and adjustments, I only owe $2,100...but that's pretty daunting for anyone who is planning on having surgery without insurance.  I'm sure other procedures (like a laproscopic surgery) are less expensive.

My insurance company received a 3 day/2 night bill from the hospital alone (not surgeon) for 100k. I think that is ridiculous. They only charge it to insurance companies because they can.

I was a self pay in Brazil with Dr. Marchesini and it was about $15,000-$20,000 for everything, including travel from Alaska to Brazil and so on.

But the currency rate is always changing as well.
