Hello all. It's ben a while since I've been here. D/S in May 2006, did AWESOME until I was diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer n August 2008. On April 16th of this year I had ostomy / stoma surgery. What follows won't make sense unless you've had an ostomy, but here goes. First month went well, but now that I'm back on a real world diet I'm having a hell of a time getting my barrier to adhere to my skin and my pouch is leaking. I think it may be from the un digested grease and fat we pass thru our stool. If there is anyone out there who is now living with an ostomy after having had the D/S, please give any advice you can.

Thanks,

Tony

I am sorry for the situation you are in.  DS colostomy leaking...oh my gosh I would be scared.  How about asking Dr K?  If not how about seeing a GI specialist with Chron's patients?  I hope you get help real soon.

I feel so bad for you!  How aweful!

Our stools are very acidic due to malabsorption.  With that acidic nature, I would think it would have a hard time adhereing.  Did you have a reversal or just the stoma surgery?

I would call Dr K's office ASAP.

Best of luck to you!

I can't speak from personal experience, but I do know that most ostomy nurses know what products are available, so if you don't already have an ostomy nurse working with you, that's someone who might be able to help you. They generally know far more about ostomy management that the surgeons do.
