Bradycardia & Hypotension 6 mo post DS

Hi everyone,

Has anyone heard of any DSers being diagnosed with bradycardia and hypotension post DS. I'm 6 months out, pulse is in the low 40's, experiencing extreme dizziness. I've been hospitalized, been on fluids (which temporarily raises my heart rate and blood pressure but not much) No one seems to know what is going on. I see a cardiologist on Wednesday. Any insight would be appreciated. I did see that a couple RNY'ers had posted about this same situation a couple years ago and were needing pacemakers. Thanks in advance.

I can say for sure this isn't a common side effect of the DS.  Of course, who knows if it's even related.  Do you have access to your original OP report?  Anything in there about damage or trauma to the vagus nerve?

There has been a couple of posts about low blood pressure on this forum in the two years that I have been here.  A couple of people do suffer from this, but it is not common.

Search hypotension and bradycardia on this site and you will be linked with other posts on this topic.  You could also use phrases like racing heart beat or low blood pressure, etc.  There are people who manage this, but whether they are here or read this thread, I do not know.  Unfortunately, I can't recall their screen names.

I hope you get some closure on this quickly.

If hydration helps then you should make sure you always drink around a gallon of water a day.

Also adding extra salt eating enough protein each and every day can also help.

There are quit a few DSers that have low BP but the fluids and the salt in most instances make a difference.

Totally agree!  It is amazing what our bodies go thru without proper hydration.  Lots of water is a cure all for lots of things!

For a quick fix when you get dizzy drink some bouillon, the high salt will help your blood pressure increase. Like I said it is a quick, temporary fix, you do need to see what the main issue is.

I was searching for information on electrolytes and found a really good post about low potassium.  It reminded me of your  post.

Also, the deactivated member who wrote this, is a doctor who had the DS himself.  For professional reasons, he no longer posts.
