Surgeon consult today. What ?s should I ask?

I have my first consult with my surgeon today. What are some Important questions and issues to make sure that I discuss?

Also, what is an "average" common channel length?  Not too long obviously, but not to short bc of malnutrition worries.

If you intend to go in asking for the DS, be prepared to tell him why you want it and how you expect to care for your needs.  Some docs are highly selective (and rightfully so) about who they do it on.  They want to make sure that patient knows how to keep healthy beyond what their staff tells them.
