Crossfit?

Hey everyone,

So in Aug 2012 I had an awful ankle injury and I have been told it will be a solid 12 months before recovery. I am sure my weight is not helping the matter at all. Prior to the ankle injury - I had started to try crossfit (despite being the ONLY obese person there) and I LOVED it!! so I will likely be having surgery this summer and want to return to crossfit.

Has anyone done this post op? and if you have, when do you get cleared for being really more physical? 6 weeks post op?

thanks everyone :)

I go to boot camp style classes that incorporate many cross fit exercises.  The difference is our trainers modify for all physical limitations.  So whereas I'm a "veteran" and have to do the high intensity version of exercises, those with injuries or limitations are shown at least 2 other things they can do.

I've heard most Crossfit classes are pretty hard core and you are expected to be able to keep up?  If that is the case, then maybe try to find a place that offers the same style exercises, but in a more modified, individualized format.

Hang in there, and give yourself time to heal properly.

Thanks. Once I'm recovered from my ankle and rny I will be psyched to go back to CrossFit. I did well, even at 230lbs.

Wow, great question. Crossfit training is very good. If you do it consistently and eat right you will have amazing results. However, this type of training is very stressful on the body, particularly the lower body (feet, knees, ankles, quads, hamstrings, lower back.) You are correct the heavier you are the more taxing crossfit is on the body. It's very important to be almost 100 percent before doing this or you will re-injure yourself perhaps worse than before. Gradually work your way back doing a less strenuous type of exercise program.
