Run/walk regimen and fat burning

I was reading a blog by Jeff Galloway and he has an article about burning fat through running.  In the article he mentioned that runners often don't lose weight because to support running, the body stores extra glycogen, fluids and increased blood volume.  I wish I could link the article but I am at work and the firewall blocks access to sports/recreation sites.

Also, I feel somewhat gratified to read Galloway's views on running/walking.  I started my walking regimen last year and slowly increased the amount of running.  While I have had a few long runs without stopping, for the most part, I run a few minutes and then walk a minute or so.  Turns out, Galloway recommends this for all level of runners.  He says that the combo of running/walking often results in faster 5K/10K and half/full marathons times.  Plus, it reduces the risk of injury.

I kind of stumbled on this myself by trial and error.  If I run without stopping for a mile I run about 12 minutes/mile.  If I combine running and walking, I have gone as fast as 10 minutes for a mile and can go 11 to 11.5 minutes per mile.

When I get home I will post some links to some of his articles or google Jeff Galloway.
