Juicing

Hello everyone,

I am 14 years post RNY.  I've managed to keep most of my weight off.  I initially weighed 267 and now I'm currently 150 and went down as low as 126.  It's a struggle everyday, but in my plight to stay healthy and eat right I wanted to know if anyone is juicing and if so, are there any recipes and/or books you could recommend.

I think because most of us here watch our sugars so closely, you will struggle to find many who juice on a regular basis. I did try juicing about 2 years ago, and I found it less satisfying and less beneficial than doing a smoothie-based diet. When you blend instead of juice, you still get all the fiber from your food, and you need less of the sugary fruits to make a serving than with juicing, because the flavor profile is greater for the whole fruit/vegetable than when you just extract the juice. Plus you can try all kinds of combos and have fun with it. Preop I was having a smoothie for breakfast and for dinner, and a normal light lunch. It was very maintainable.

My plan very specifically prohibits liquid calories.

Thanks for your post.  I'm interesting in juicing, partly because I am trying to follow a plant based whole foods diet and I want to get as many nutrients in as possible.  I've been making a green juice that is satisfying, and has about 150 calories - it includes a cucumber, a stalk of celery, about one inch of fresh ginger root, 1 peeled lemon, and 1 small apple.  I'm almost 6 years post op and have put back about 20 lbs - I'm convinced that I can take the weight off with proper nutrition and exercise.  Wish me luck!

Juices, even vegetable juices, are liquid calories that won't keep you satisfied as long as eating whole food.  Just eat those vegetables.  :)

Glad to hear about your weight loss and it's really inspiring the way you try to manage the weight. Juicing is a good option and there are a lot of good juicing recipes to try. After my weight loss treatment at Pinewood Natural Health Center in Toronto, my dietician had advised me to try juicing recipes that will help regulate and maintain our weight eliminating the excess of calories. I have found some good juicing recipes at https://juicerecipes.com/ . Keep the good work going!

On that stage i think liquid calories is the best option for you if you like
