Plastic Consult - approval time???

Mary A.

I went for my plastics consult at Scarborough Hospital on Sept 29

...and had a wonderful almost hour long session with the plastic surgeon

...we discussed procedures, success, pain, time off etc etc etc, we then did the menage of pictures to be submitted...and then I made the decision to apply for the pannelectomy and a breast lift...I will add the tummy tuck on and pay for that if approved.

my question is...those who have had a plasctic consult did you wait a long time for the letter/call/approval etc???

when I had my RNY I heard about 3 weeks after my consult...so although I am not an impatient perosn for the most part..I was wondering if PERHAPS because I went to a larger center (Scarborough) as opposed to (Thunder Bay)..I may end up waiting a bit longer?

any thoughts????  TIA

Hi there,

Could you send this response to me too...as I'm also curious about the breast lift.

I don't see the PS until the end of November so I'm also interested in the turn around for approval times.

Thanks,
Jackie

I went to the same location so I'll assume it was the same Dr.
I had my appointment on June 23 and got my approval call yesterday, October 11/11.
I was told it would take about 8 weeks to hear back. After calling OHIP yesterday and speaking to a couple of wonderful ladies I did find out that the backlog was on their end. Hopefully the backlog is cleared up and you don't have to wait as long.

Hello I have not been on the forum for about a year now - I am almost 3 years post op and doing great and am looking at PS for June next year.  I am interested in any information where OHIP would cover any part of the procedures and of anyone's experience and finally and Plastic surgeon's willing to work with OHIP (preferably in Ottawa) but not tied to that.

Thanks

Julie

OHIP approval can take up to 8 weeks. The surgeons office will receive the notification.

Breast lift is not an OHIP covered procedure but breast reduction is.

Thanks Linda:  I do FULLY realize that a breast lift is not covered...I discussed this with the Plastic Surgeon and am completely aware of the necessary parameters in order to have a "lift" done and covered.

Thanks again.

I just wanted to clarify because there is so much misinformation out there.
My OHIP covered breast reduction did include a lift. Actual breast tissue must be removed at the time of this surgery.
