Carbs?

Hello Friends
What is your opinion on carbs? Do they have to be 20-30grams? I thought if they were healthy carbs like a banana were ok. Am I wrong in my thinking?

Thank you

I personally eat my protein first, but then I concentrate on eating some of all the other food groups as well. I eat a small banana about 4 out of 7 days a week. Most of my carbs come from fruits and vegetables with some whole grains. I only avoid white carbs.

I eat cottage cheese and fruit (banana, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) with bran buds almost every morning for breakfast.  Hope this helps.

I eat fruit & veggies & I do eat 3 crackers as a snack with cheese. I'm not one that avoids carbs but I try and make better carb choices. Pre-surgery a bulk of my diet was white refined carbs.

My approach while trying to loose weight has been carbs are carbs - you can only have so many per day, period!  The CHOICE comes in when you decide what kind of carbs you will eat within that guideline - fruits, vegetables, whole grains, carbs in milk (if you drink milk), etc.: or processed sugary, white "stuff".  Most try to eat the good carbs from the first list and stay away from the second group, but you are still limited by how many carbs you can have per day no matter whether they are "good" or "bad".

I have kept my carb calories at 33% of my daily total calories for the past year (as per the TWH guidelines), and my weight loss has been and still remains steady throughout.  I use FitDay.com which calculates this out for me and gives me daily percentages based on my eating, or weekly - monthly - whatever.  This has helped me see what works for my body and what doesn't.  When I dropped my carbs to 33% from a 37/38% average, my weight loss really picked up.

Hope this helps.

The carbs in fruit are fructose, a form of sugar and it's no better for you than any other kind of sugar and may actually more harmful than even glucose in its effects on the liver and insulin response. I'm keeping carbs to 50g/day while losing weight and avoid fruit, anything white and wheat products.

I try to eat my carbs in the forms of fruits and veggies and avoid food made from white flour and sugar. While I agree with Pat about the sugar in fruits there are so many fruits that have so many great things in them that I wouldn't want to completely eliminate them from my diet.

Fructose is unhealthy in large amounts such as in juice because the sugar is not being mitigated by fibre. That is why it is better to eat whole fruits instead of juice. I would guess it wouldn`t be wise to eliminate them completely, in agreement with Jenn, as they have lots of beneficial nutrients.
