Creative things to mix pills with?
RNY on 05/18/12
Hey all,
3 weeks n couple days out and just wondering what ppl use to mix meds with?
Getting a little sick of applesauce (even the flavoured ones/yogurt routine).
At this point I'm wondering if this will be my life- that every meal I have to account to adding either a 100ml yogurt or apple sauce x3 a day to take meds. Feeling like a little much- have tried splitting one yogurt in half - but then not enough lubricant/taste to get pill cuts down.
Thoughts?

I used to crush meds in just a tablespoon of applesauce or yogurt and just down it. lol I never ate a whole container full.

I guess I shoulda mention that I cut them not crush- just cant do crushed (yuck!)
When I did crush- my calcium alone was like a tblspn b.f adding anything.
But I guess if I'm desperate I'll try again.
Thanks,
Kelsey

Mmmmm... I'm getting tired of my sugar-free chocolate syrup so this sounds like a nice alternative! I've still got another 11 full days of crushing everything, bah!

I'm taking all my meds crushed right now due to jaw surgery and this is what I do:
Crush pills into fine powder, put powder in bottom of glass, drop a tiny amount of water on them and mix with a spoon until they form a smooth paste, add a generous amount of Hershey's sugar-free chocolate syrup and mix it together with paste, fill the glass about half-way with milk, stir vigorously and drink it immediately after stirring to nothing settles on the bottom. Enjoy! If you have anything left at the bottom, just add a little more milk and syrup and repeat.
Some of my meds taste completely awful and this still manages to cover it up pretty well. The only thing it couldn't manage to cover is my dry vitamin A. If you get tired of the sweetness, I've also done it with V8 juice (add a little pepper if you like a 'kick'), but its ability to mask the med taste is not as strong so I can only do that with certain ones.

How big are the pills? If they are the size of an M&M or smaller you can swallow them.
For the calcium citrate I just chew it up and swallow it with a tiny bit of water. It is chalky but doesn't really have any taste to it.
