carb counting "net" or total?
Hi there and thanks for looking.
Background, my roux en Y was May 2nd 2012. I went from 276 to 181. I got hit hard with a throat abscess 2 weeks ago and for a period of days I couldn't eat or drink. Now that I'm on the mend, the weight went right back to the pre-illness stall. I have been off work since November 14th and finally got Dr. clearance to return to work next week. I have started back on the treadmill, not well enough to run outside yet. I was running 8km, but was only able to do 3km today. My stall has been 5 weeks so far.
Still trying to break my stall and get over this illness. Many people mention the culprit as the dreaded CARB.
Do you focus on "net carbs" with the equation being total carbs-fibre=net carbs or just total carbs?
What is the magic number to get below to break the stall? I've been in the 40-30-30 rule and hitting around 1000 calories. I'm working my way back down to the 800 calorie mark.
Thank you in advance for your help (having trouble sorting out the chaff in the search function)
I count total carbs. I know a lot of people don't but a carb is a carb to me and my weight loss has been consistent and awesome doing it that way. I eat 600-800 cals a day - Above 80 grams of protein and below 40 grams of carbs.
And you're so close to goal!
I have to say that i have always considered a carb is a carb. That said I have been paring down pre-op by limiting the carbs related to starches (including veggies). So... Obviously no corn (allergy), carrots, potato, and most grains go way down. It's how I took off the 35 lbs I am most proud of losing last time (and I kept that off by continuing my limited carb ways). If I wanted fiber I got it from other sources.
Can I ask what your actual body fat percentages are? Maybe that is something to look at.
You are pretty active... and... Gawd I hope this is taken the "right way"... I've seen your pics and you're pretty busty too right?

I have no idea at all what my body fat percentage is...I am still avoiding formal gyms. I have my treadmill and crossbow weight machine. I love being outside. I guess that's something I should look into. Ya, I'm still busty, my cups have finally gone down from an H, but only by a cup or 2. Runs in the family.
Thanks for the suggestions
That sure is an esteem boosting calculator. It says that I have an "acceptable" amount of body fat at 27.53% and I'm 3.5% away from being fit lol
That cut is figure flattering. I don't know if I'll end up with a breast reduction. I've never had a back problem from holding up the girls.
I'm always going to be curvy, but I'm already starting to feel better in my skin.
Only absorbed carbs count, so you don't count fibre or sugar alcohols. If you're trying to maintain ketosis for fat loss, most people will need to stay below 50g/day. It's really not about calories. If you limit your carbs and aim for high protein (80-100g), the calories don't really matter.
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
50g of NET carbs. I try to eat high fibre and yesterday my carb total was 74g, but my net carbs was 54g. That also doesn't include the sugar alcohols. So that should be closer to what I need. I had 97g of protein. I can work on decreasing my carbs a bit.
Thanks
