I chose the IUD, but I don't plan on having anymore children, like ever!!

An IUD wouldn't be a bad option though... once it's removed, you can immediately get pregnant.

For every year you are on depro your body will need that long before you get pregnant.

I was one depro for 8 years and it screwed my body up royally.  The bacteria from lack of getting your period backs up in your system. I had stage 3 cervical cancer and stage 1 ovarian cancer and I was healthy as a horse and my doctor felt it had something to do with depro provera.  Speak with any fertility doctor and they will tell you to steer clear of it.

Good luck with whatever decision you make. YOu know whats best for your body.

the best person to talk to about this would be your gp or gynecologist.

I went on Mirena back in February to stop my periods.  I have had bleeding every day since.  Went back to have it removed.  I was put on the pill to see if that would stop the bleeding while still with the iud.  No change.  I'm having it removed and going to hopefully have an ablation!  Good luck!

I was on depo for five years.. I did gain weight from it. I am sure there are pro's and cons to both. I had no issue with my cycle not going back to normal after depo. Exacttly 3 months from my last injection my cycle was back and normal and has been ever since and its been 7 years

Same story for me as the poster before me......I was on depo for 7 yrs.....loved it. When I went off of it, my period came back exactly 3 months after my last injection and its been regular ever since.

Depo does increase risk of osteoporosis because it apparently leaches some of the calcium from your bones - but my doc has been ok with me staying on it previously because of my weight - being heavier actually forces your body to make more bone material, thereby somehow over-riding the tendency for depo to weaken bones.

Basically, its a personal choice. I have an appt with a gyno in June to discuss getting a Mirena iud. We'll see what happens.

What about the Nuvo-ring or the patches - I've heard good things about those but don't have any personal experience with them. They might be an option because the hormone doesn't need to be absorbed by your digestive system. Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Andrea

I have had the Merina (sp??) IUD for 5 years and I love it!!! It actually made my periods lighter and no cramps at all!! Some of my friends have it and have not gotten a period in years, or once every few months cycle or so.

I would say do the IUD, because my friends who did Depo had hard times concieving years later when they wanted. And 2 of them bled for weeks and weeks at a time after.

Not everybody is the same of course, but just in my honest opinion, that is what I would choose!! :)

Good luck!!!

An IUD is longer term than a year and a half. Have you considered NuvaRing? It is a great option, super easy to use
