Private rooms
I was very annoyed after I was asked at my preop appointment if I wanted to pay the extra $290 to upgrade from a ward to a private room only to find out that we all get private rooms at no charge to us.
So, anyone who has yet to reach this stage, don't fall for the trap.
At my pre-op at TWH they spelled out what was available.
There are two private bariatric rooms but depending on the luck of the draw I may or may not get one. If that was the case I would get a ward or semi-private, depending on what I wanted to pay or not pay, and yes I could upgrade to a non- bariatric private if one of the two was unavailable.
I have insurance that pays for a semi-private which is fine with me. Whoever I get roomed with gets to hear me expel gas all day... lucky them :)

At TEGH no one told me that they only had semi-private room for WLS surgery patients, so when the woman who admitted me asked me whether I wanted to try and get a private or semi-private room, I signed the form and was billed for a semi-private room even though I could not have had anything else there. I was ticked. The only good part about it was that no one else used the other bed, so at least I got a private room for semi rates. Beware indeed, especially those of you like me with no insurance.

All I'm saying is, don't get takin for a ride

in Duluth, MN where I had my surgery over 5 years ago, they had a 24 hr holding area that only had 5 beds (I believe) it was and 2 specialty nurses..after you were up and walking around you were transferred to the regular ward..where I shared a room with a woman how constantly complained she needed more pain relievers..(day and night)
..so I spent the least amount of time as I could. and walked the hallway and corridors and hung out in teh dayroom, then I asked my doctor to release me ASAP..
I know even with coverage of a single/private room, some hospitals can't make that accomodation if there are not rooms available,.
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
