Where do beans fit in?  I know they are a good source of protein but they are also high in carbs

I see chili often in peoples daily menus, does your chili include beans? or should I start making a modified recipe with little to no beans?

Usually I include black beans, kidney beans, and brown beans.

Just wondered what the vets do.

I use beans all the time. Love them! I subtract the fibre amount from the carb count.

I count calories, not carbs. That said, I do try to keep things lower carb - no white rice, pasta, bread, etc. I also avoid high sugar content fruits as it's a trigger for me. Beans, for me, are not a problem.

Beans are a legume. They are a good source of protein. They do include carbs but these are good or complex carbs. The ones we should stay away from are the simple carbs such as rice, potatoes bread

I eat pretty vegetarian these days and that means a lot of beans and legumes (lentils, chickpeas, etc). I eat higher-carb now than I did when I was losing. I still recommend keeping it lower carb during the losing phase (30-40 carbs/day) but you can incorporate beans into this. Beans have a ton of fiber and other nutrients, including iron.

I love adding beans to chili and salads. I make fantastic burrito bowls with beans (no rice) and veggies. Try dried beans from Bulk Barn and soak them before cooking. I avoid canned beans whenever possible.

I found a can o' beans lately!

Heinz Chili Style, found in local grocery stores.

One of my easy peasy sources of protein, good to go with a 1/2 cup serving.
