What did you tell your co-workers?

Curious what others told people at work about the surgery? I know some are totally upfront, others not so much. My co-workers who know about the surgery and have followed my progress are asking what I want them to tell everybody else once I'm not in the workplace. I waffle between just letting them come to their own conclusions, because I think this would be amusing to hear what they come up with and having them tell about the procedure. Or perhaps I should have them say to talk to me once I return to work. Bonus: I only have 9 shifts before my surgery as I booked vacation a few months ago which will fall just before my surgery date.

Thanks,

Karen

I'm an open book! I'll tell anyone... so I may not be the best source here. Lol

I told my colleagues, I tell my clients, heck, I tell random people like at the grocery store if it comes up!!

What you tell your colleagues is entirely up to you... whatever you're most comfortable with.

9 shifts left. Yahoo!!

I guess it's the thought of judgement. But I've been thinking about how to frame what I tell people. It's about my health. Not simply losing weight. I guess I just think people will think I'm being lazy and taking the easy way out even though we all know that nothing about this process has been easy.

No one has judged me or cared about my reasons. Yes, it's about losing weight for me! And lots of it!!! Why? No one asks. Heck, no one asks about my reasons for surgery. Maybe a couple, but I am so confident this was the right decision, it never feels like judgement. And if they do judge, I couldn't care less... that's on them. I don't have to absorb that. If I feel judged, that's my own inner reflection coming out.

Your worries about laziness and the easy way out etc... those are your own feelings. Resolve them and then you'll have no one ever able to judge you. :)

I totally get that they are my own feelings. Likely most people could care less! Just another way my head is working against me.

There's a few people at work who have had the surgery. I'm probably just over thinking it.

My Husband & I work at the same place. He had his surgery a few weeks ago and no one know beside me & a few close friends, as of right now a couple co-workers think he had a hernia surgery. He will deal with everything face to face when he comes back, in his own way.

Me on the other hand I have been telling everyone since I started the process months ago! but only a handful of people know the specifics. I am an open book for the most part!

It really depends on how you want to handle the situation, everyone is different!

Good Luck

Thanks, I've told some people and they are like, oh no why would you do that. Others are like, you go girl!! They will definitely notice when I return to work so might as well be upfront.

I told my boss who is also the owner of the Company where I work. I needed to be upfront because of time off required for appointments and tests and such.

Once I knew I was approved, and I was definitely moving forward, I told my co-workers. There was no point hiding what I was doing. They were going to see me losing weight and see my eating habits change drastically. I figured eventually they would put 2 and 2 together anyway.

It's not a secret and I answer any and all questions honestly.
