Baby food

Just thinking ahead here. Once I get to the puree stage of food, would eating baby food be easier to digest than trying to take itsy bitsy bites of other food? Has anyone else tried this? I'm curious to find out your thoughts..

Why not try making things you already like and blending them since then you can include your protein requirements and it will likely taste better

Baby foods are a horrible idea. Most baby foods are laden with sugar.

There is no reason why you can't eat soft/pureed foods like yogurt, soft cheese, cream soups with protein powder, sugar free pudding with protein powder.

Google "World According to Eggface." She had WLS years ago and created an amazing website of recpies for all stages of WLS and one of her most popular foods I see fresh post ops eating is called "Riccota Bake" tastes like lasagna with out the meat & noodles.

Keep the baby foods for babies, eat real food, your body will like it much better.

Best of luck.

I agree, I had looked into baby food and they were full of weird stuff (unless you buy the ultra fancy organic stuff that costs a fortune!)

I lived on cottage cheese and soup with added protein and had no trouble (other than getting massively sick of eating nothing but goo)

If you're considering baby food you haven't been around one lately, the meats smell and taste not so good, no seasoning as its for babies. I've been making my own purees using the same meat/cheeses I would otherwise have, also been able to make an alternate version for my spouse in some cases (after 7 weeks he's getting tired of doing his own cooking). But wait till after your surgery as some things may not taste the same.'

Good luck you'll be on the other side soon.

Hi Squishy,

My vote is for real food too. Lots of protein, veggies (non starch) and a bit for fruit. I never really did the puree stage. I just started eating...very small amounts and thoroughly chewing before swallowing. When done properly, teeth and saliva work just as well as a blender! It worked for me, but again, everyone is different.

I'm really concerned with the puree stage. My palate doesn't tolerate soft foods very well. It's a gag reflex thing. So to think about pureeing meat and veg etc is turning me upside down!

Maybe I will try the itsy bitsy bites and chew, chew chew. Sounds much better than a chicken shake.

I get the gag reflex thing. I would never puree meat or veg either, gross!

Think of any food that is like "baby food" in consistency. Such as:

yogurt

cottage cheese

sugar free applesauce with protein powder added in

soup with unflavored protein powder added in

protein pudding or sugar free pudding with unflavored protein powder added in

Bulk Barn has a really good tasting chocolate and unflavored protein powder, its great because you can go in and just buy as much or as little as you like

ricotta cheese that you can make savory or sweet. Savory - add in some spaghetti sauce, sweet - add in some Splenda and cinnamon

take a Premier Protein shake, freeze it in a popsicle mold and have it like that

mashed up hard boiled egg

mashed up chickpeas

mashed up tuna

Chew everything until its the consistency of water in your mouth.

You can do this, best of luck!

All great ideas.

I made chicken salad, tuna salad, salmon salad and egg salad as well. It all went down just fine. I used low fat mayonnaise mixed with low fat cream cheese or added a bit of greek yogurt to help with the protein.

I also made meatloaf, mashed it up and added a bit of gravy on top. I found hamburger very easy to digest. I just took very small bites and chewed. It kinda disintegrated in my mouth. Easy peasy.

I had surgery at Toronto western and we were specifically told not to have baby food during the purée stage. The thought of puréed meats grossed me out to. Don't worry, the purée stage is short and there are lots of protein alternatives to puréed meats out there.. poached eggs, moist fish mashed with a fork, black bean soup, hummus, yogurt.
