Is revision worth it?

Hi,

I am working toward getting a revision from VBG to DS.  My surgeon is one of the best in the Midwest for DS and DS revisions.  My question is: for those who have had any revisions, was it successful?  I feel like a total failure because my VBG didn't work for me the way I thought it would.  It failed me and I failed it.  I am older and wiser now and working toward permanent changes in my eating habits.  Just tell me-is it worth it?

Hi Linda,

I was revised from RNY to DS in December. I had a leak and recovery has been  slow and very challenging. Even with complications I now think it was worth it. I am still struggling to eat and I miss my hair...it's still falling out. That will grow back. A month ago I would have said maybe not but now I say it has been worth it. I am 19 pounds from a normal BMI.

Good luck,

Whit

I have lost 74 pounds in almost 5-1/2 months. I lost 40 in the first 2 months though thank goodness it has slowed down. I have 16 more to loose to reach "normal" BMI so if it takes a few months I am fine with that. I have gone from 240 pounds, 2x and 22/24's to 166 size 10's.  I'm happy with that.

Best,

Whitney

Yes that sounds great. N successful. My friend is getting a RNy to RNY reversion, but I heard the DS was a better choice. I myself had the RNY 10 years ago I went from 325 to 200 n over the 10 yr period I'm back to 300 from having twins etc I'm thinking about a revision myself n I'm doing research n hoping to t back down to 200 pds. I been dieting n lost 40 pds so far n its been 2 months.

I had RNY in Jan 2007, and RNY revision to distal in Jan 2013, and have lost so far 56 lbs.  So I figure about 5 months out that isn't too bad.  Hopefully I can lose another 30 lbs and I'd would be thrilled.

I'm revising from a VBG (2001) to  RnY soonish - going through the process, etc. I'm really glad you asked this, because I honestly wonder this myself sometime. I have read/heard so many weird things about revision that I wonder if I'm doing the right thing. I'm 340lbs, and was 350lbs when I had the VBG - lost 125lbs, which I have gained all but 10lbs back of in the last 11 years. I, too, am older and wiser, and know that I can be successful - but then I read that "revisions lose slowly" - which makes ZERO sense to me, especially after 11 years.

So many things to think about, but I honestly feel this is the right path.

If you want to lose---AND keep off!---195 pounds, skip the RNY and go straight to the DS. Seriously.

Wow thats great. I was thinking about a revision but my Dr suggested RNY to RNY but since I'm in the gym everyday n do things so different now. I'm eagerly ready to do this again......I just want to make the right choice. RNY or DS?

Between RNY and DS, DS hands down and save your pyloric valve!
