Hi everyone. I just had my surgery a little over a week ago and for the past few nights, I've been feeling crummy and having a low grade fever every night. Any ideas as to why?

Your body is healing. Sometimes you'll run a low-grade fever while you heal. You will feel crummy for a bit, but it gets better. If your fever gets higher or you start to worry, call your surgeon. They may tell you to take a liquid tylenol to reduce it.

Many patients experience a post-op temperature as a result of undergoing anesthesia.  I hope you received an incentive spirometer in the hospital and if you did, you brought it home and are using it.  That will help keep your temperature normalized and help to prevent post-op pneumonia.

As long as it is less than 100.4, you have no need to worry about infection.

I got one and I've been using it.  I'll keep it up though, especially since I've been coughing a little.

When I discharge my surgical patients, I always send it home with them and tell them to use it for atleast 2 weeks.  It really works.  Oh, and coughing up the phlegm from your lungs is GOOD.

Funny, I have been experiencing the same thing but I have noticed it usually happens after I eat something.  I am only 2 weeks post op and everytime I eat I get a mild flushing and slight nausea about 15 -30 minutes afterwards.  I think it is my body adjusting to the malabsorption sort of a mild dumping.  anyway, it passes after a while and it hasn't slowed my progressed.  Otherwise, I am glad to have had this done. Diabetes is gone, blood pressure is lower and my knees don't ache like they use to.
