Can someone tell me what is the typical stay in the hospital for Gastric Bypass? Does it depend on your insurance, cause I have Medicare and Dr. Woods is my surgeon. Im going in tomorow to set up my date(Im assuming) and this is the only thing bugging me. My son graduates this year from highschool and i soooooo want to be there. Thanks!

I’m still in pre-op but from my research I found the average stay time for RNY is about 2 days. Good luck

My surgeon tells people to expect 2 days for lap surgery and 4 days for open.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

2 nights are typical. some surgeons do overnight but it's mostly 2 nights for LAP RNY. For open RNY i've heard 4 to 5 days

I only spent one night.  I would have had to stay longer if I was unable to keep my fluids down.  I kept my fluids down and I was able to walk, so I was released.  Good luck to you.
