healthfirst/medicaid NY

I wanted to know if anyone has used healthfirst/medicaid in NY to obtain their surgery. If so what was the process like for you including the wait time for approval. Also were you required to do a supervised diet plan and for how many months?  I am trying to gather as much information about this plan before switching to it. Thanks all.

I have medicare and medicaid. I had to only do as the surgeon's office required... egd, psych, nutX2, surgeon, and loose 5% of my weight... 13 pounds at that point. I don't know if healthfirst has any extra requirements.

Thanks Teri...how long did you have to wait to get approved?

With medicaid there is no pre approval. So as soon as I met the pre op requirements with my surgeon, I was scheduled. I took me nearly 4 months for my band, and because of surgeon scheduling nearly 7. It was worth the wait.

Hello everyone I`m have healthfirst and i just started to get the ball rolling on gastric sleeve surgery, and i was wondering if anyone here has an info. about how long it takes to get all the appointments and requirements done get to get the surgery? and also did anyone have a problem with the PCP disagree with you about having surgery?

Hello, I was just wondering did you find out what were the requirements for the sleeve with healthfirst? I have straight Medicaid and I have to choose a provider. I have already started the process and don't want to start over or prolong it. Thanks!
