Karate?
When I went to the academy I was about 1 yr or close to it out of surgery. I did runs 3 times a week at 2-3 miles each time, then went and did defensive tacticts (getting thrown to the ground, wrestling someone to the ground, etc.), kickboxing, weights, all kinds of stuff. I never had an issue, if anything doing this type of activity helps to strengthen your core and will make you a little stronger. Every person is different, so you should consult your surgeon beforehand, but I know people who do a lot of physical activity like this after wls and they have no problems. I hope that helps you out. Good luck.

There are a few of us that do karate tkd or kickboxing. I started probably 4 months out and love it.

I am in karate. I was in three years prior to my surgery on March 1st and used to working out. I had to wait 8 weeks to do any abwork (we do a lot of situps) and 12 weeks for sparring drills and such. I have not actively sparred without pads yet or done any ground fighting, but I've resumed three karate classes a week pretty much full force.
I took a three hour second degree brown belt test yesterday and came through it with flying colors, ab work and all - no pain. I also did a judo camp Saturday and that was a mistake - my incision sites were aching and I had to take painkillers Saturday night...
My doc basically just said to wait eight weeks for any of the abwork type stuff and running, then 12 for the contact stuff, and to listen to my own body about everything else. If it hurts, don't do it.
