Your thoughts....
Hi to all OH friends, just wanted to see if anyone has or had this problem-my whole family was aganist my RNY surgery and I've been happy with my choice to have the surgery and have lost 45 pounds went to my sisters house for Thanksgiving and no one said a thing to me about my weight loss or how I was doing-any advice?
Listen, you know you look and feel better. I didn't tell anyone but my husband who had to know since we live together. I'm still early out so even though everyone said I looked good yesterday they still had no idea about the surgery. I'm sorry if it hurt you that they did not acknowledge your success so far. Some people have a hard time with accepting it when someone disagrees with what they think is right. (Meaning in their mind you should not have had the surgery.) Don't let anyone rain on your charcoal. Keep up the good work and enjoy the new you.
Don't let anyone rain on your parade. You did what was best for you, not them. As for Thanksgiving, they all probably felt a bit awkward about the whole thing. It is kind of hard to back pedal from being very against your surgery to giving compliments. I suggest just giving them some time. I have always said that I think there are some families where labels are put on people and when you had your surgery you were going to shed your label as the "big" person in the family. Now someone else is going to be bigger and is probably very uncomfortable in that role. Or, perhaps everyone is big and they all feel threatened by the change.
If everyone is regular size, it also could be lack of education. Perhaps an opportunity might come up to let them know if they want to ask questions you are willing to share what has been happening for you so far. That is, if you want to share.
I wish you the best on your journey and you will always have your OH family here,
Paula
