Someone correct me if i am wrong but i don't think you can unless you have just started the job and even then i think you have to wait a minimum of 90 days.   Only once has my husband ever been able to enroll in insurance immediately upon start of employment but i would think that is pretty rare.

Sorry I should have said, I am not new to the job, I have been there for years but I am picking up the insurance in Sept. I am currently on my husband's plan. I do not mind waiting for the surgery but I would love to do it in the summer when I do not have to work so I can have more time to recover.

I think you'll have to wait for the open enrollment period but why don't you ask your HR person or whomever is in charge of it at your job?  Maybe there is some way around it and that's the person that should be able to help you if there is a way.

I guess it never hurts to ask them in HR to see what they say. I can only pray there is some loophole to get coverage. I will be done with my nutrition vists in April so the summer would be perfect timing.

The only other thing I can think of is if you no longer have coverage with your husband that will make you "uninsured" so you can probably join then.

Not everyone has a 90 day waiting period. I worked for a company who's benefits started the 1st of the month following your first 30 days.

Usually special cir****tances mean the covered person had a baby, and the baby needs to be added to their policy. Or a divorce, someone needs to be removed. ETc.

Best would be to check with your HR benefits coordinator and find out what the policy guidelines are with your company, as each contract is different.

Have you checked with the state to see about getting medical coverage until you're able to sign up at work?
