I am almost one week out.  I am finding that protein drinks I liked before are just too sweet tasting and very hard to drink.  I also went to Walmart to walk around and smells REALLY overwhelmed me and made me almost ill such as holiday scents, cigarette smoke and smell about put me over the edge.  Is this normal?  Does it disappear over time?

It is very normal.  Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it doesn't.  You might have to try some different shake flavors/brands to find one that works for you as far as sweetness goes.

Very normal.  It does get better with time, I promise.

I'm 4 months out, and I still have some issues with smell and taste.    It was hard the first two months.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Change in tastebuds and sensitivities to textures of foods or shakes and odors are very commoon.  I had minimal issues as a new post op. I still have one issue at 5 1/2 years post op. I still get nauseous when someone is cooking bacon. Whether in a restuarant or at home, I can't tolerate the odor for very long. If I'm at home, I just go outside or to the other end of the home when bacon is in the pan.  Yes, it usually subsides with time, but you have some lingering issues, like I have with bacon. DAVE
