Weight gain after surgery
RNY on 01/10/12
I have heard that there is weight gain right after gastric bypass surgery from all the gas they pumped into you. What is the normal weight gain? and How long does it take before you lose it? I had my gastric bypass on Tuesday and I gained 22 pounds!!! How much weight did you gain? How long before you were back to your pre-surgery weight?
Thanks ~Mary~

There is no weight gain from gas (they eliminate the gas they use when the surgery is over, plus gas has no weight). There is often "weight gain" because of all the IV fluids they give you in the hospital, however. It can take anywhere from just a couple of days to a week (perhaps even more, I suppose, depending on your own body) to get rid of it.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
