One Year Surgeversary

I can't believe that it was one year ago today that my life changed forever. I started at 262 pounds (and I'm only 5'5). Debilitating back pain, high blood pressure, and lack of ability or interest in any physical activity were the facts of my life. With 5 kids 8 and under (you heard me) I desperately wanted to be able to run and enjoy life with them. As the pounds have melted away these things have become a reality.
One week after surgery I was back at work and began my exercise program. 6 days a week on the treadmill with weight every other day. I have been good with my vitamins and diet. At one year out my regular diet looks something like this:
Breakfast: Coffee followed by 0% unflavored greek yogurt with SF Jelly/Sf Syrup and Splenda
Morning Snack: Low Fat Cheese with Trader Joes Savory Thins (these have great stats)
Lunch: Sliced Fat Free Turkey or Low Fat Cheese with TJ's Savory Thins
Dinner: Protein Heavy Like Chicken, Tuna, or Egg Substitute. I discovered that I digest dark meat chicken better (my dietitian said this was fine).
Evening Snack: Trader Joe's Fat Free Cottage Cheese with a few greek olives and sometimes a few of those savory thins for crunch.
I still don't eat any bread or pasta. I have found that protein shakes and especially bars upset my too much to be worth it. This is ironic since I have gone from severely lactose intolerant  to enjoying the greek yogurt and cottage cheese. Straight milk still is only good in moderation. I allow myself to have a bite here and there of sweets. Moderation is the key. Fried foods and sugar both make me really sick if I have than a few bites.
In terms of support the only ones who were ever apprehensive were my parents who are both severely overweight themselves. They happened to be visiting me here in sunny LA and my father actually came to the surgery with me. Shorty after wards they began to diet themselves and have lost 85 and 65 pounds respectively through the non-surgical route. I was definitely an inspiration to them. My friends and co-workers have all been beyond supportive and I have not heard a single negative comment. When I hear about others receiving negative feedback it always blows me away.
Although I don't post that often, being on this website on a daily basis has been a great support as my very busy lifestyle (five kids and 4 jobs) keeps me from going to too many live support groups. One final thing is that some of my pain has not gone away despite the weight lose. After consulting with the specialist at the pain center I have decided that I must exercise through the pain because I need to stay active to keep my body working and burning.
Today I am at 140 pounds and living life in ways that I never could have imagined. I wear a size 32 waist 40 suit and small size from stores like the gap etc...  . I have enjoyed building a whole new wardrobe.
