Poll: suggestions for non food rewards
One of my former downfalls was using food as a reward for good behavior and as solace in difficult times. Well, I'd like to change that! I feel that doing this alone will significantly help me keep the weight off once I'm out of the "golden period" of weight loss.
So, my questions to everyone are:
what do you use for non food rewards?
have you had to do any mental work to change the thought that food = reward or food= consolation? if so what did you do?

mani, pedi, massage, whole spa day, facial, weekend getaways, sometimes I just go get my hair washed and get a blow out. other times I go buy myself a new shirt or something like that. a few times I've bought myself new workout clothes, shoes, exercise equipment. when my husband actually notices I'm losing weight he usually gets me a massage for working so hard. he doesn't notice very often haha.
Make a list. Things that work for me, at least sometimes, are a long hot bubble bath, new clothes (new to me, anyway, from the thrift store), jewelry, music, books, doing something fun with a friend like going to see a movie or going for a walk at the park, coloring books (I know it seems silly, but whatever works, right?).
Also, I occasionally do food rewards, just healthy food rewards. Like a pint of fresh raspberries, or my favorite salad. I don't think food rewards would be good all the time, even if I always chose healthy ones, but I don't see the harm for me in using them occasionally if they are healthy. I think that could be one of those "slippery slope" things though that might not work for everyone.
What I try to do the most is ask myself what reward would feel really good in a situation. Like, if I want to reward myself for cleaning my bathroom, I could have some ice cream, yeah. Which would be gone in 15 minutes and the sugar might make me feel sick and then I might feel guilty for eating something that wasn't good for me. Or I could take a long hot bubble bath and enjoy my clean bathroom, and that would last longer than 15 minutes and afterward instead of feeling sick or guilty I would feel relaxed and calm. So that seems like a better reward in the end than ice cream.
