Alcohol?

What did your surgeon tell you about alcohol?  I got very limited information and have no clue.  All I know is what I've read.  Just wondering if you guys drink or how long it took you to do that in your journey.  I used to drink wine in the evening and ocassional happy hours - which I miss..

I drink wine on occasions and have had no problems with it, except I am a cheap date.

The only addiction I have ever had is to cigarettes and I am 10 years clean this year - so no cross addiction problems for me, but I think this is purely an individual thing.

I NEVER EVER drink and drive - not even a sip as there is no way I am capable of doing so safely!

I had my first drink at 9 months post-op; I am VERY limited to how much I can consume I feel it very quickly.

Cross-addictions are real......be very careful and aware of when/how often/how much you drink.

You will get plastered real quick. Not worth the calories and possible cross addiction problems.

Thanks Guys!  my husband is a recovering alcoholic and has been clean for 5 years, so I do understand addiction and have to always be careful with him.  I also understand the alcohol tolereance will be different and would never drink and drive.
I worry about sugar and carbonated beverages because that's one thing I don't ever want to try.  I was thinking of maybe having a glass of red wine?  and if that would be the best option when I do have a drink.  I've also seen the crystal light mixes and wonder if those are the best options.

My drink of choice pre-op was red wine.  Post-op, it doesnt sit as well:(
I can drink white wine with no issues, and also  liquor...but its def not the same as pre-op.

My surgeon said it is unnecessary sugar and calories.  I could have a very small amount of wine, but I don't like it anyway.  Luckily I never developed a taste for alcohol so it won't be an issue for me to avoid it.  I live in the Napa Valley of beer and hate the stuff.

I had a drink at about 7 months... and it affected me like I had 10... doctor said a glass of wine is ok but I don't drink wine... so, like a good friend who also had GB surgery told me - be careful with that first one cuz it it might just kick your butt ;~)
