Birth Control ???s

I know that birth control is often discussed on this forum...so I apologize if this has been brought up recently.  i am 10 weeks post op. I take the birth control pill (ortho novium) for polycystic ovaries which causes terrible cramps. I know that we do not absorb the pill as well after RNY. This has become apparant to me recently. i usually take the pill for 6 weeks on and one week off. I am only able to get to 4 week on and my period starts. It is much heavier than ever before and my cramps are starting to get worse again. I have been on the same pill since i was 16 (30 now) so I really do not want to change but I think I might have to.

So I have 2 questions...

1. Will I eventually start absorbing this pill again..like 18 months out....or is this an issue forever?

2. Does anyone have any suggestions on other types of birth control (pills or otherwise) that will work on my cramps?

Thanks!

I take Yazfor my cramps and decided to continue taking it although I could not use it as my primary source of birth control. I also experienced some wacky symptoms in the first few months. But, by a few months out, everything went back to normal and it has been working for me like it did pre-op for the past 9 months. Give it some time to settle.

Thank you so much for the information. That gives me hope that my pills will start working again! I love them and don't want to change!

For my pcos i actualy get the Depo shot, i dont get much of a period at all i spot here and there and it really helps. and weight gain hasnt really affected me as far as the shot goes. it was something i was scared out of my mind about. but it goes in through you muscle and it lasts 3 months. i really love  it :)

I'm on year 3 of the Mirena and absolutely love it. I rarely get a period at all and when I do, the cramps are non exsistant. I used to have terrible cramping at that time of the month.

As far as absorbing the pill, my team told me I would never fully absorb the pill again and that it would never be a good birth control option for me post op.

 For Question 2!

Hummers! & Handys!

There is always the popular Answer from the old Newlywed Game:
IN THE BUTT BOB! (Edited to be less vulgar.  It actually happened I posted the link last week)

Then there is the ever popular semi-reliable CONDOMS!

Funniest Newlywed Game clip ever!  First time I heard it was on the radio several years ago.  Almost peed my pants but wasn't totally positive they hadn't faked it.  Then I saw the actual clip.

But I have to say, for an answer of "Most unusual place you and your hubby have ever made whoopie" it's a valid answer.

Wonder if they lasted?

i too have the mirena IUD...i went from the pill to this...has been great so far...hardly any periods and when i do have them it is more like spotting....for MANY years i thought i had gone into early menopause as i had no periods...and i do mean years years and years....was quite nice....then one day out of the blue...one started and boy did it start...stayed around for over 6 weeks and was very heavy..i was wearing 3 overnight super size pads and still sitting on a towel, forget sneezing or laughing..that would send me to the shower..this was when i went to dr..it started out normal like, but just kept getting worse and worse...well ended up getting 2 DNCS done and was put on the pill so i would cycle every month..was on this for years, the periods were some what heavy at first then got more normal...this was like 4-5 years on the pill....then had surgery, was on the pill for 6 months after that, but i was gone for 3.5 months out of that time..i came home and got the IUD put in as soon as i got home as we did not want to take the chance of getting preg...i has having a hard time with the latex from the condoms we were trying to use just in case..so the mirena was what my OBGYN suggested..so far great....i still have light spotting each month but most times i just wear a panty liner..that is all that is needed...os much better.
good luck
