Restriction Doesn't Last Forever?

I am currently researching RNY and have been told by my nutritionist that works for my surgeon, among other bariatric surgeons also in the area, that restriction will always be with you after having RNY.

Then I read that someone on here had RNY and she said that restriction doesn't last forever.
I am confused....does the restriction part of the surgery go away?  Isn't that one of the critical points as to why we choose this type of surgery is because it always will offer restriction?

Please help, I thought this was one of the things that stays with you in order to have long term success with RNY????

I still have restriction, not the same amount as early on, but it's definitely there!

I can eat a normal portion but could NEVER eat a restaurant portion of food ...

I also believe I still malabsorb fats too.

Amen!  They make fat-blocking pills that work, so why can't they make carb-blocking pills that actually DO block carbs?!?

 Totally agree on both counts.

I think most of us still malabsorb fats to a certain extent (perhaps some more than others). Unfortunately, I think that I am one of the "others", LOL.  There is only "evidence" of any fat malabsorption if I consume a significantly higher than normal amount of fat.  I sometimes miss the "rainbow" days, LOL...

And you always WILL malabsorb fats to some degree. Unlike protein and carbs, fat simply CAN'T be absorbed until it's emulisified by bile, and there is no bile in the alimentary limb of your RNY. Fat absorption can't start until food and bile combine in the 'leg' of your intestinal  'Y'.

Yes you'll have some striction always unless you have a surgery mechanical failure (happens, sometimes).  The amount of restriction will not always be as small as initially after surgery, the pouch will stretch some.

Yes, the restriction lasts forever.  Your pouch will never, ever be the size your stomach was pre-RNY.  The pouch does stretch a little over time and it's supposed to.  But short of a physical problem, which is rare, you will always have restriction.

For instance, the opening between the pouch and small intestine could get way too large, which would cause food to leave your pouch very quickly so you wouldn't have much restriction.  But again, that's rare.
