Breath

My husband swears my breath smells different since having RNY 4.5 months ago.
He says it doesn't smell bad, but almost chemical-like.  He said he doesn't think I'll ever
have bad breath again...lol.  Has anyone said this to you??

I'm only 3 weeks out and mine smells horrible, they say its because the body is eatting it's own fat.  I use sugar free mints and listerine 3 times a day which helps.

 My Nutritionist recommended 4 ounces of wellche's pure grape juice a day for 3 days to solve this. 

More than likely you are in ketosis. As time goes on and your caloric intake and carb intake increases it should stop.

It is also how the Atkins diet works.

You can do a search here and find some posts on ketosis or you can do a google search with bypass and ketosis. It is common.

When you lose weight - especially large amounts quickly you go into ketosis. When this happens the breath gets bad - having a chemical or metallic taste. Listerine had breath strips that go on the tongue that seem to work - it's internal not in the mouth but the breath strips seem to help a bit. It will quit when the rapid weight loss is over.

Yep, likely ketones/ketosis. Some vitamins (and medications) can also cause your breath to smell different, though.
