Stricture Advice

So, wife had her upper GI done again last night and again she has another stricture.  The GI doctor told her that where the stricture is at, and the recurrence, it may be a permanent thing.  Since she can still get fluids and food down (it's just extremely slow emptying) they're not going to do anything yet.  The stricture is at the base of the esophegus before the stomach.

My question is this... I've always heard of others on here getting strictures fixed with a balloon dilation or something similar.  Her GI doctor has never done one of these, he always opts for a stent...but since she's had 4 stents placed, they do not want to do another.  The latest stent placement they did a shot of botox and it's been the best of all, 3 straight weeks without Nausea.  Now the wife is getting the nausea again and is having to take zofran 2-3x a day.

If this is a permanent outlook for my wife, I really don't know how her quality of life will be long-term.  We've called a few doctors in the area, and no one wants to take on my wifes case.  Basically they don't want to consult on an issue where another doctor screwed up, and since it was internal surgery, they dont' want to go back in and possibly cause more complicatons.

Really kind of at my wits-end here.  She's not as bad as she was immediately post-op, but she can't take anti-nausea medications for the rest of her life, that would be just ridiculous.

Any thoughts my OH folks??

I'm so sorry she's had so much trouble.  I think I would keep looking for a specialist the treat her.  If you have to travel a bit outside of your immediate area, it sounds like it would be worth it.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I an having major issues with a stricture after a revision to a Gstrectomy because of Gastroparesis. I have had 6 dialations in the last 8wks and 4 more planned. Mine closes so quickly that I vomit constantly and like your wife I have constant nausea. I use zofran and a scop patch. I would like to chat further about them using stents. My email is kirsty949 @ yahoo . Com
