Protein Bars? Any recommendations that are good to start on?

So I am 5 weeks out today and ready to start "regular" foods. Thought that I might get a few protein bars to try, but I am concerned about how easy the are to digest? Am I going to get more than a bite or two before being stuffed? And will I be so stuffed after that it will take me too long to be ready for my next drink/meal?? Any suggestions? Preferably something I can go into a store and buy a few at a time without paying shipping.

I like "Pure Protein"  brand.  You can get them at Walmart for about $6 a for a box of 6.  They have 19-20g of protein per bar and 180-200 cals per bar (depending on the flavor you buy).  I keep one in my purse in case I'm caught out longer than anticipated and need nourishment.  I usually don't eat an entire bar at once.  They slip through the pouch quite easily.  If you're not having trouble with other foods, you shouldn't with this bar.  Try two small bites to start and progress.

I don't like to rely on bars now that I'm on solids.  I try to stick with meats, light cheese, and greek yogurt.  But the bars come in handy when in a pinch.

I have had good luck with these too and usually eat about half the bar.  An extra Ziploc baggie works well to store the other half for later.  I kept them as back up when I used to fly all the time.

Thanks!! That is what I want them for...back up! I am going back to work next week and I am a nurse in a busy ER, not always time for a "meal"...thought shakes and bars may be my work diet! Appreciate the info!

The Atkins bars are a pretty good choice, I think, as are Quest.  The Quest are really dense, though, and might be hard to eat this early out.

I also like Pure Protein Bars.  You can get them at Sams or Costco.

Watch out for sugar alcohols as they can really upset your tummy.  I just bought quest bars and there are 5 sugar alcohols per bar and I am having a little trouble with them.  Think thin has 0 sugars  so I thought they would be good, but I got sick and checked and the sugar alcohols were over 12 grams.

I dump on quest bars. My body sees the "so called fiber" as sugar. My body BS level spiked from 95 before I ate the bar - to over 200  20 min after I ate the bar. Not cool. And I never get reaction like that from the sugar alcohols that are listed on the package - but I also learned not to trust "list of ingredients" on processed foods.
