The pipes are finally clogged (hhmmph,...constipation help, please)
Ok. Almost four weeks post-op and the dreaded is finally happening...experiencing constipation! Been taking stool softeners (n=2) daily for a couple months, but the low calorie, soft, protein only diet is providing next to zero fiber. Besides that, just started another med (for prevention of gall stones) today adding to the ones I already take plus the vitamin/calcium regimen. What can I do to gently ( emphasized gently) get things moving a little easier????
Constipation is not to be taken lightly. You can end up in the hospital with an obstruction. Be sure to consult your surgeon for advise. Here is what I had to do when I had the same issue. In addition to the daily stool softener, increase fluids, walk or increase exercise, add Benefiber or Metamucil to my diet. I also had to escalate to MOM, and then Mag Citrate on one occasion. Now that I am incorporating more regular foods, and less of the protien drink supplements, I an nearly back to normal. Good luck!!
