Keep waiting for something bad
Last Thursday I went to an RNY support group. First, I am SO thankful I had the surgeon and hospital that I did. I heard nothing but terrible horror stories from all those women. I am 17 days post op. Aside from some pain I haven't had any problems. Not a single complication.... I get in my fluids, most of my protein, no vomiting...... Yet I am TERRIFiED after going to that support group. I know I should relax but I am just afraid of everything that can go wrong now.

Do not jump on the woe is me band wagon. Keep looking positively at your own success. I too have not had any complications and I am now 15 months post-op. Continue with the support group. It sounds like they need your positive story to counteract the negativity of others.
Good luck.

I haven't had any serious complications. I feel great and I'm doing fabulous! Next time, at your support group, say that! Let them know you've had a good recovery and are doing wonderful.

What Dee said!!
Most people don't have complications, but the ones who do are more vocal because they need support.
I, too, encourage you to go to the group and be vocal about NOT having any problems. I can guarantee that someone there will appreciate hearing that! Imagine if you were pre-op hearing all those horror stories and not hearing anyone say they have had not issues! (Also, if you have anyone who is one of the few who actually find a sort of pleasure in playing the martyr regarding how difficult this process is (and is not the "easy" way out), perhaps it will help them as well...)

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I'll be honest, I skipped through this weight loss journey - I still even have my gallbladder I lost my weight in 6 months and am now coming up for my 9 year anniversary and am still maintaining ...
Yes, I have diabetes now and I still have the auto immune diseases I had before, but I am almost 100% certain that I would be way sicker if my BMI were still 40 and I bet I would be on insulin and not well controlled on a bit of Metformin, diet and exercise!!!
There are lots of people *****vel in their illness and complications and they do tend to take over at support groups - even trying to outdo each other at times LOL. But don't let them put you off - make it your mission to pay it forward to all those pre-ops out there who are second guessing because ALL they hear are the horror stories.
I know I **** people off here when I say this but this really IS the easy way out and as an intelligent woman, I'm proud of myself for taking it all those years ago and you should be too!
