Fruit in it's own juice...

I am still a bit new and confused with this, but I am trying to figure things out as I move forward. I want to try a pineapple slice from the can in it's own juice, which states on the front "no sugar added", " all natura'l... but the label reads Sugar 14g (Dole Brand).....I normally always stay under 10g of sugar, but is fruit juice (it's own juice") included?.....

Please help and thanks in advance.....

Pineapple is very high in fructose (sugar) - berries tend to be the best fruits in terms of lower sugar - whether it will make you dum*****t, who knows?   If I were you, I would dry the fruit so no juice remains - the only problem with this is that pineapple is very fibrous and not easily digested.   There really are better fruit choices when you are newly pouched!

I rarely eat fruit because the nutrition it provides is not worth the sugar to me - but we each have to make our own decisions in regards to our diet!

Some people are more sensitive to natural fruit sugars than other people, so always proceed cautiously with new fruits.  Pineapple has more sugar than many fruits, but -- more importantly -- it is very fibrous and therefore hard to digest.  My surgeon had a very liberal post-op eating plan (soft food on Day Three and solids at 1 week), but we were not allowed pineapple until a couple of months out because it is hard to digest.

If an entire slice has too much sugar, have just half a slice!

Depending on how your stomach has been dealing with new foods, I would be careful of the pineapple because of the above mentioned harder-to-digest reasons.  That said, I tolerate natural sugars just fine.  I stick to protein first, and usually fill up, but I find that I can eat a bite of fruit without issue.  I also had 100% natural OJ.  Once - it was really tasty.

Everyone is different and we are in the experimental phase...

Thank for the advice guys, I think for now I will leave the pineapples to my kids, although it is (was) my all time favorite fruit!!. I was tying to find something to add to my fage yogurt in the morning for breakfast, back to the drawing board.

Thanks again,

First time I tried pineapple was probably 4 months post op and it made my stomach hurt.  Then I tried again about a month later and it was fine.  Just wanted you to know that you will be able to eat it again (probably)  Just take it slow adding fruit.  I think mashed banana and berries are the easiest to digest.
