Cereal???
That depends on what kind of cereal and how you plan to eat it. Eating it in the normal way with milk poured over it violates the "no drinking with meals" rule. In general, cereal has VERY little protein and is VERY high in carbs... Not a good combination for RNYers. Kashi has some cereals that are high protein, but keep in mind that you won't be able to eat a full serving so it isn't as high in protein as you would think. It is still a lot more protein than in regular cereal though.
I personally chose not to eat any cereal until after a year out because of the lack of protein and high carbs. I now have some very rarely... mostly Grape Nuts used for crunch with Greek yogurt.

It may be ok in your plan, but I would ask myself "is it beneficial?" Is it high protein cereal? I avoid empty carbs with the exception of dairy and limited fruits and veggies. And I only eat small amounts of fruits and veggies after eating my serving of protein. So back to your question - is it ok to eat cereal? I can't answer that for you. I do know that many people who are successful with their weight loss journey focus on protein, protein, protein. I am choosing to do the same. Hope that helps. -Kim

Cereal, rice, potatoes, crackers, bread, pasta, pastries are things that are never going to be good for you again. They are high in carbs and a waste of your precious pouch space. Concentrate on protein, no matter what your plan says. Don't even think about cereal until you are well into maintenance. Stay scared of it. That is smart.
I just replied to this on another post. Cereal is what I o to when I need a sweet fix. I just add skim milk. Special K has a high protein cereal that resembles wheaties. They are slightly sweet and yummy. I bought mine at Walmart. I also buy this at my local international market. Kay's naturals.http://shop.kaysnaturals.com/searchresults.asp?cat=1819
I am glad I read this post. I am hoping to have RNY in June. I have fiber one every morning so I can have regular BMs. I was planning to eat this for breakfast from now on after surgery and getting thru the liquid stage. Now, after reading these posts, it seems that this is a bad idea. Do some of you folks have a protein drink every morning for breakfast?
I am almost 6 years out, and am not a fan of most protein shakes as such, but I still have protein powder in my morning SF hot chocolate (year-round except in VERY hot weather). I get enough protein from foods, but the extra 20g in the morning enables me to not have to worry about counting my protein every single day because I know I will be well over the minimum.
