Back pain for two months

I've had back pain mostly on the left side since surgery. My surgery date was May 7th and I've just been told it was due to being on the operating table for so long. This seems like a long time to still be feeling pain. I never had back pain like this before surgery. When I had back pain pre-surgery it was after sleeping on my back and then it would go away in a day. Now I've had it for 2 months straight. This past weekend it has gotten worse that I'm taking 4-6 Tylenols just so I can get some relief. Am I just to live with this until it goes away? I was told it should be gone within a few weeks but that was a month ago. Am I just being impatient or is there something else going on that I should get a second opinion?

I would get a second opinion at this point. Maybe a chiropractor, massage or physical therapy is warranted. I've had a lot of hip problems since surgery 6 months ago, but I had the problems previously. My osteopath and physical therapist have both said that your body does a lot of readjusting when you are losing weight this quickly.  I've had some knee and back issues too since surgery ... which has been annoying given that you expect everything to get better when you lose weight. I hope you get to the source of your pain and feel better soon.

Gee whiz, how long were you on the table that a medical professional would equate back pain to it? That just seems like a dismissive response to a true issue.

I'd be stepping it up and seeing a specialist. Maybe an orthopedist or neurosurgeon to rule out any other issues.

Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way.  Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

Could it be your sciatica nerve? My dad and aunt both aggravated this and it was very painful. And took weeks to heal.

Mine lasted two months! No reason ever really found for it either. Doc said table, NUT said gas, but it was more than both of those I'm sure. Anyway, took Roxicet to sleep with heating pad every night and massage once a week. Now I'm completely better back wise. Good luck! Follow your gut feeling!

I'm not sure if your pain is anything like mine. Mine starts from left side of my belly button near one of  the incisions and travels to the left of my back. My surgeon said it was a nerve that travels through there and was injured during surgery. She gave me a liquid neuronton nerve pain med and i have been taking it for a few days now it does seem to be getting better and the swelling from my incisions is getting better too. I'm almost 3 weeks out now. Hope you get some answers and you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your responses. My surgeon's office did agree finally that it wasn't normal that it's lasted this long and that it has gotten worse in the last 5 days. I'm going in later today. Hopefully with a diagnosis, or at the very least with some strong drugs to make it better :)
