I make those without the flour pretty much like H.a.l.a. shared ... they are DELICIOUS ... The maple extract is a great idea - thanks for the tip .. definitely adding that to my next batch...

Are you planning any dietary changes after surgery?  

I wouldn't eat these at 9 years out because of the flour, apple sauce or jam!!!   Can't imagine doing so at less than a month after surgery

Don't they need some baking powder to rise?  I'm going to try it out with flax seed and protein powder.  Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Baking powder (not too much) and a pinch of salt... 

For an autumn taste -  add a 1 Tbs of pumpkin (canned pumpkin) and 1/2 -1 tsp of pumpkin pie spices (just the flavor - the spices) - sooo.. good.
