Healing for other sugeries after having WLS??

I have a question for anyone who has had other surgeries after having had WLS.  For healing after any surgery, good nutrition is very important.  Since we have malabsorption, I was wondering if anyone has had other types of surgery post WLS, and if so, were there special concerns about healing due to our post WLS status?

I've had a couple surgeries after my WLS, including gall bladder removal and breast biopsy. I had no difficult with healing.  I think as long as you're getting your protein and taking your vitamins, you should be fine.  Despite the malabsorption, I think I'm in better shape nutritionally now than I ever was before my RNY.  I actually pay attention to what I eat now and I get labs done regularly so I know my protein level, vitamin D level, etc. is all good.  I bet it wasn't good at all pre-op.

None whatsoever!   I had extensive plastics at 2 years out and healed fabulously - I was the healthiest I had been for years ...   Good nutrition and exercise!

Load up on protein prior to a planned surgery.   I've had 2 hernia surgeries post revision and both times I healed pretty fast due to high protein intake.  I aim for 100 grams of protein a day and 100 oz of water a day.

I'm going to have my shoulder replaced 10/31, 2 months after bypass. My surgeon said I could have had the shoulder done 6 weeks after WLS, but work intervened. Protein is what heals your body after surgery so I am staying focused on that. None of my four doctors have expressed any concern about post-op healing.  I had considered doing the shoulder first, but the consensus of the doctors was I should do the WLS first and get past the initial post-op diet and into my new routine before doing the shoulder which has a more difficult recovery with lots of PT.

I recently fell and cracked my wrist and was in a cast for 6 weeks - after I got the cast off - the doctor looked at my x-ray and said "you healed like a kid"!

I don't believe that if I hadn't lost weight and gotten into good physical shape, that I would have fared that well in anything I've gone through physically in the past 5 years since my WLS.

I had foot surgery nine months after my bypass and healed great. It even involved healing of bone too so I was pleased. I just made sure to get plenty of protein.

I had SI joint pins and a hysterectomy and a TT post op and healed perfectly :)

Like the others have said, healthier now so lower risk, take vitamins and increase protein.
